I have been given the opportunity to review two (2) Howard B Wigglebottom books. Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back and Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship: by Howard Binkow and Susan F. Cornelison.

Howard B. Wigglebottom – And the Monkey on His Back: A tale about telling the truth. Also Howard B. Wigglebottom – Learns About Sportsmanship. While my grandson and I were reading, we discussed the options and choices Howard faced. We talked about the way each choice would make us feel if we were in Howard place. We normally discuss each book we read together as we read through. This allows us to touch an any question he may have.
A few of the lessons played out throughout the story of Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back. Telling the Truth, Being Licked ans Accepted, The Little Voice Inside Your Head. Howard had a little voice inside his head that told him lying is wrong. When he chose not to pay attention to the voice, he felt bad about himself ad became unhappy. He felt like he had a monkey on his back, which was weird and uncomfortable.
Lessons to take away from Howard B. Wigglebottom – Learns About Sportsmanship. Howard always wanted to come in first. He used to be very upset if he lost or came in second. He felt he was better than the other children when he won a game or came in first. A Team Player is nice and respectful to his/her teammates. Shares the ball. Says positive things. Forgives mistakes. Doesn’t cheat.
Read with your children so you can discuss and answers question that may arise throughout the story. Once we had discussed the book the first time though. We were able to read several more time and each time he would state the lesson learned without my prompting.
I recommend the Howard B. Wigglebottom books. A great resource tool to help bring about the topics and lessons you would like to discuss within your family.
