It’s Throwback Thursday!
This week my memories are taking me down the lane to summer rodeos in the Ozarks, Throwback Thursday.
Throughout my life, I’ve known individuals and family members who have participated in the local rodeos and even did a fair bit of traveling for such events.
The word rodeo brings to mind the hot days of July in our area. When the homemade ice cream and watermelon are flowing like wine. Hey, a girl has to stay cool with the approaching dog days of summer.
One summer my oldest granddaughter decided she was tough enough to give mutton busting a whorl.
She was decked out as all the other rodeo participants were in her best boots, dress shirt and hat.
She had developed the swagger as she walked across the arena (although I think part of it was from the boots and chaps).
She would get herself ready for the ride, and yet still hold on to the princess persona by making sure she was “looking good.” Ha. She is still our princess even though she’s much older now.
She was ready for the ride and so excited…. until the shoot opened; then she was hanging on for dear life.
Get outdoors and have a great summer, and don’t forget to bring your camera along to catch those precious memories for the future generations and maybe a little teasing when the children are headed off to college.
What are some of your fondest summer memories?
