As a woman, I’ve developed a love hate relationship with my hair over the years. When I was young my hair was auburn and very curly. I tried everything in my power to tame it down so my hair would look the same as the other girls at school, and remember this was before owning a personal blow-dryer, curling iron or flat iron was something mosts families didn’t own. Most nights I would pull my hair back in a loose ponytail and then create curls around two of my fingers which I would secure with bobby-pins until morning. Upon awakening, I’d remove the bobby-pin curls and ponytail and then give my hair a quick brush. Once that was complete sometimes I’d pull a small amount of hair away from my face and secure it with a hair barrette or pull the whole thing back into a ponytail. This would give me the appearance of having somewhat straight hair around my face and then bigger/loose curls around the bottom. This was at a time WAY before kinky curly hair would become popular.

I personally selected eSalon Big Love Color Care Volumizing Shampoo and Big Softie Color Care Volumizing Conditioner. I selected the duo in hopes of ending with hair that is shiny, with a bit of added volume, because my hair has been through a lot of stress over the years. I’ve dealt with cancer and treatment 3 times. I’ve been ill for the past couple of years and the specialists believe they have narrowed it down to psoriatic arthritis and lupus. Great combo, right? Most defiantly not. Therefore my hair has become thin and fine. After being sick for so long and so often my hair will no longer hold color for more than a couple of weeks, and truly I’m not going to recolor my hair every 3 weeks. So my hair is not only thin and fine but tri-colored gray and still curly, all though not kinky curly more of a big curl or wavy if you will.
When I decide to let my hair go a bit on the wild side I add eSalon Above The Clouds Volumizing Mousse through my hair paying attention to the middle and ends to help define my curls.
I give my roots a quick lite spray with eSalon Get Lifted Root Lift Hairspray before I begin blow drying my hair with a diffuser attachment. Since my hair is thin and fine I pip my head upside down while blowing my hair dry with a blow-dryer the diffuser attachment and scrunching my hair repeatedly until 90% dry. The I remove the defuser and turn the blow dryer on low air and concentrate on the roots ONLY to help improve volume.
Once my hair is dry I flip my hair back as I stand in an upright position once again. From there I only need to use my fingers to make any final adjustments before I apply a light weight hair spray to my roots and to the area around my face. I do this because I truly can not stand for any hair be flopping in my eyes. Now my hair is ready for the day. I normally carry a hair tie or a small clip so I can pull my hair up into a quick messy bun if needed later in the day.
Some days I feel like putting in a little more effort and wearing my hair in a more smooth style. Once I’ve towel dried my hair I apply a little eSalon Feelin’ Smoothie Anti-Frizz Hair Serum and work it through my hair from top to bottom.
Then I apply a small dab of eSalon In Perfect Form from mid way down my hair to the ends as well to help define and keep my hair looking smooth looking all day long.
Then I run a hair brush through my hair and then tip my head upside down to blow dry with the diffuser OFF. I start at the root area and blow dry my hair until I reach the ends as I work my way back and forth across and through my hair until it is dry.
Once my hair is dry I tip my head back up and finger style any adjustments I might need. Then finish with a good hairspray to help keep my hair looking good all day. Often I pull the sides back and create a pouf at the back of my head which I hold with a couple of bobby pins that match my hair color (close enough) or a hair barrette.
You know when I think about it over the years I’ve worn some strange although trending hairstyles, like the big bangs in the 80’s with way too much hair product and overuse of the curling iron, yep I’m guilty as charged. Let the team at eSalon.com help you care for your hair color and hair style.
