A brief history of Havarti cheese.
Havarti was first developed by a 19th-century Danish female dairy pioneer named Hanne Nielsen.
The cheese was named after Hanne Nielsen’s dairy farm: Havartigaard.
Master Danish cheese makers brought the proud traditions of Hanne Nielsen to Hollandtown back in the year 1998.
The award-winning Havarti in produced according to the old Danish recipe and traditions.
Hollandtown is the No. 1 producer of Havarti in the USA.
As you can see by the picture above Arla Dofino produces an array of inspiring cheeses to help you create the perfect dish for your family and friends. I’ve personally always been a big cheese fan and now that I have been introduced to Arla Dofino cheeses I think I’ve found my new addiction. Havarti with Jalapeño was the first package I picked up when I visited our local supermarket. Oh, the things I can top with the cheese with a bite. I’m a huge fan of jalapeños and I eat them at least, a few times per week. We found the Edam sliced perfectly for afternoon snacks and lunch time with the children. My grandchildren believe not only are apples supposed to be dipped in peanut butter but they dip their cheese wedges in peanut butter as well. It’s not my cup of tea but who knows, maybe one of them will have a chef’s palate. Hey, a grandmother can dream.
We have the pitter patter (maybe rumble is a better fit) of little ones feet running through our home several days a week; as I care for a few of my 10 grandchildren. When my grandchildren team up with my brothers grandchildren it can become a fun fill day of running to and fro as they play games and entertain not only each other but the adults as well. It’s almost always a day filled with tired and hungry children, and grandma needs to step up to the plate and fill those tummies with nutritious foods that will help them speed off for part two of the day.
I picked up the Havarti with Jalapeño for myself but I also picked up creamy Havarti, Edam, and Gouda slices as well during my supermarket trip in anticipation of our #HavartiParty. I know from experience lunch time needs to consist of finger foods and dishes I can place on the table quickly; because they simply will not tolerate a long drawn out affair without a few grumbles.
I prepared toasted creamy Havarti and Gouda cheese sandwiches with bacon. I sliced my cheese ahead of time and placed all of my ingredients on the counter for assembly style production. Easy peasy I had two skillets going with 4 sandwiches cooking at a time. My apples I sliced early in the morning before the children arrived and squeezed lemon juice over the fresh slices to prevent browning. While my sandwiches were cooking I placed my apples on the plate in fan fashion along with a spoon full of peanut butter (which I later found out it should have been 2 spoons per plate) and poured milk and water for each of the children. Making the final step as simple as cutting the sandwiches and placing them on each plate.
I didn’t tell the children we were trying a “new” cheese during our lunch time break. And I was pleasantly surprised by the fact the sandwiched were gobbled up rather quickly. Once we finished lunch I then asked if they enjoyed/liked the toasted cheese and bacon sandwiches. They were all pleased so then I dropped the bomb… I switched up our cheese! As we all know some children take change very hard, some grandmas too. lol.
I’ll tell you right now I’m a bit embarrassed by the photo above. Have you ever tried to take a picture of a fresh from the fire toasted cheese sandwich. The cheese was exactly the way you want a toasted cheese sandwich to be, all melted and delicious. However, it doesn’t photograph very well. But the children along with my brother and his wife and myself can attest to the fact our Arla Dofino toasted cheese sandwiches were delicious!
Pick up a package of cheesy goodness upon your next supermarket visit, serving up Arla Dofino cheese for your family and friends. Beginning with melty Creamy Havarti to buttery Smoked Gouda, Arla Dofino is an excellent choice for your next BBQ that will bring them back asking for more melty cheesy goodness.

I am a cheese lover from way back but have never tried Halvarti! Guess who will be looking for this brand while shopping today! (I did see a mention of Munster which is my favorite of all cheeses!)
