The Holidays Are Fast Approaching And For Me That Means Baking Treats For Our Family and Friends With Krusteaz Cookie Mixes
I received Krusteaz mixes to facilitate a review.*
Did you realize the sense of taste and smell can trigger memories? Every time I smell honeysuckle I think about hot summer nights, the scent of honeysuckle heavy in the hot summer air floating on the air through my bedroom window (before air conditioning) and the smell of peanut butter brings back memories of my mother baking honey peanut butter cookies.
Why not start a family tradition, baking cookies or muffins to be added into your families holiday stocking, as a thank you gift for attending a holiday party or perhaps as a treat ‘just because’. Maybe many years from now someone will think back fondly of you when they smell or see a fresh baked cookie that brings back memories of the treats baked during the holidays. I certainly hope my grandchildren think fondly of me when they think back about grandma LeahSay, other than the fact grandma is addicted to coffee. 😉
My daughter and her three children visited recently and we spent the day in the kitchen baking with Krusteaz cookie mixes and we received a lot of help decorating the cookies with sprinkles, colored chocolate chips, icing and candies from the grandchildren. There may or may not have been a fair amount of candies and chocolate chips consumed during the decorating phase.
We baked up gingerbread cookies in the shape of gingerbread men, trees, and reindeer. Which will each be packaged into airtight containers and added to the gift bags which will be passed out to everyone young and old alike. We added a bit of chocolate and a holiday card. Did you know Ball Canning Jars make excellent airtight storage for holiday goodies and treats! You can dress the jar up with an added ribbon and bow, however, the treat inside, in my opinion, makes the jar pretty without the added glitz.
I decided to switch up my cookies this year. I’m on a pecan kick right now, so several of my recent recipes include pecans.
I decreased my butter by 2 tablespoons. And added 2 heaping tablespoons of cake flour to my Krusteaz Snickerdoodle Cookie mix.
Once the cookies have been rolled in the provided cinnamon sugar mixture; I then use a butter coated spoon to work an indentation into the center of each cookie on the cookie sheet. Next I added less than on teaspoon of my pecan mixture into the center of each cookie and then baked as directed on the box.
Pecan mixture: 1/2 cup chopped pecans, 1 teaspoon melted butter, 1 egg white, a dash of cinnamon; mixed together and spooned into the center of each cookie.
I have to fess up. The first batch I created as I was working out the right amounts of butter to omit and cake flour to add. My cookies spread out across the pan and looked rather flat. But that’s okay because everyone devoured the errors and I quickly came up with the right formula for our Pecan Topped Snickerdoodle Cookies.
I whipped up a batch of Grandma Jean’s Soft Chocolate Cookies and added a little holiday sparkle!
