Through the years our family cared for a variety of pets. I can remember once when the boy caught a chipmunk and kept him in a hamster cage for a short time. One day when they opened the door to feed and clean the cage the chipmunk decided he’d been caged long enough and made a break for freedom! It was so funny listening to them squeal as the super speedy chipmunk darted around the room and then made the transition to the great outdoors. You’d think that would be the end of it but no, it wasn’t. They were always finding turtles, and kittens a couple of times. We even gave being parents providing pet care to an aquarium full of fish.

Earlier in the summer, our family adopted a kitten who is completely black in color with the excepting of a few white hairs on her chest and her green eyes. We decided to name her Luna, which is Latin for Moon; tying in with the theme of 2017 Total Solar Eclipse.

She weighed in at just under 4 pounds when she came home and she’s finally weighing in at 6.2 pounds now.

This is in part due to the fact she is VERY active, she RUNS through the house more often than not.

A few of the grandchildren “helped” papa put-together the new cat tree*. They were so serious and engrossed you’d thought they were charged with building the next multimillion dollar home.

If you look close you can just make out her claws on her front paw and the tip of her ear and her nose, since she is 99% covered in black fur she is very difficult t see when she is in her cat tree house or peeping out from under the edge of the bed or furniture. She will lay still just under the edge of the table and you’d never know she was there if our dog Noko didn’t stop to stare at her location.

When Luna thinks you are not paying close enough attention to her she will leap up on the furniture to let you know. My granddaughter Miss Z calls both the dog and cat “pup-pup”.

It’s seriously difficult to capture a photograph of Luna as she is rarely still for long and when you think you’ve got a shot lined up… you end up with a blur. I’m hoping the photo opportunities improve as she ages.
